THE SHAKA SIGN is a common greeting gesture often associated with Hawaii. Hawaiian
locals use the shaka to convey what locals in Hawaii call the “Aloha Spirit”, a
gesture of friendship and understanding between the various ethnic cultures that
reside within Hawaii, and thus it depending on context it can also mean “all
right”, “cool”, “smooth”, and the like.
"Then from the back of the room, someone holds up their hand in a fist with the thumb and pinky protruding out and says, “Dr. Kataria, “In Hawaii, this is the sign for “Shakha”. It means “Hello” or “How Are You?” or “Hang Loose.” Dr. Kataria holds up his right and left hands forming the “Shakha Sign” and says, “Well, in that case; everyone; lets create the “Shakha Laughter”. He begins to laugh and everyone raises their hands forming the “Shakha Sign” and we all laugh. HA, HA, HA, HA, HA!!
